Autumn has to be the best season of the year. The smells of cider and pumpkin spiced beverages, the crunching of leaves beneath your feet, the cool breeze flowing in from the windows. It is truly a magnificent couple of months and deserves a little more recognition here in Chicago. Other seasons try to act like they are cool too, but they just cannot match what Autumn has to offer. Let me take a moment of your time here and tell you why Autumn can’t be beat.
Out of the four seasons, only one holds the distinction of having interchangeable names. Autumn and Fall. That may seem like it is not a big deal, but if you only have so many characters left in your Twitter status, you’ll use Fall and not Autumn. Something else that is great about Autumn are the sports that take place. Baseball hits its stride with the arrival of the playoffs, while hockey, football, and basketball are getting their seasons started.
Food choices move from sitting outside sweating in the heat eating brat wursts for supper for the third night in a row, to being able to turn on your oven and making meatloaf with mashed potatoes on the side. Don’t have enough time to prepare dinner? Have some soup, while a grilled cheese sandwich is made on the stovetop.
Throw in some holiday festivities starting with Oktoberfest, straight into Halloween and ending with Thanksgiving and you’ve hit the
trifecta of seasonal greatness. Grab a hoodie, have a bonfire. Get ready to enjoy the next couple of months while the leaves change colors around you. Autumn is here, and there is not a more beautiful time of year in Chicago.
