Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development (BUILD, Inc.) is seeking a committed, self-motivated, enthusiastic professional to join the Clinical and Community Wellness team in the role of Therapist. Since 1969, BUILD has worked in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods giving at-risk youth alternatives to the violence that takes away their positive potential. Applying our model of positive youth development, BUILD seeks to redirect the behavior of gang-affiliated youth and potential gang recruits to improve their chances of leading fulfilling lives and to increase the stability and safety of the communities in which they reside.Vision: Grow Hope. BUILD Futures.The Therapist will have a dual role as a Community Therapist as well as act as a provide immediate support to youth and their families after a shooting or other act of violence, including emotional support, initial assessments and referrals for support. Services take place within targeted communities and area hospitals as needed.The Therapist is responsible for effectively addressing the mental health/substance abuse needs of high-risk youth through:Clinical Assessment for youth referred to BUILD programs as well as in-field support and consultation;Provide a client centered and strength based approach to the treatment of youth and families.Establishing mental health/substance abuse referral partners and identifying opportunities for more formal collaboration.Therapist reports directly to the Manager of Community Mental Health Services.Direct Service:Exemplifies the mission, vision and values of the agency.Receives case assignments, establishes treatment plans, reviews case progress and determines case closure through the supervisor of the assigned program.Provides mental health services to participants through a holistic and trauma informed lens.Makes referrals in accordance with service plans to other organization units and external providers.Provide case management and connection to internal and external services.Assists members of the Intervention Team during crisis situations involving youth.Professional Development & Support:Maintains knowledge current in the field including, but not limited to, attendance at seminars, workshops, etc.Support staff to identify youth mental health issues, provide support, and refer youth to community partners offering more intensive services.Consult with staff and provide in-field support for high-need youth.Maintains knowledge current on agency's theories, methodologies and best practices.Attends departmental and agency-wide staff meetings, as scheduled and agency-wide events as required.Documentation and Compliance:Document and report program activities and outcomes, and ensure progress toward annual program objectives.Submits statistics and reports to corresponding managers on a bi-weekly and monthly basis and/or as needed.Maintains File Compliance as required and compliance with ETO.Other Job Duties as AssignedRequired Qualifications:Master's Degree in Social Work or a related mental health field.Working towards or holding licensure (LCSW/LCPC) is required.Minimum experience of 3 years in working inner-city youth.Highly organized with excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills.Operate professionally in the field on a flexible time schedule, which includes late evenings and weekends.Possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skillsProficiency with technology (Microsoft Office), tech integration into daily program operations and evaluation systems.Must possess solid understanding of data collection and program evaluationAutomobile with insurance and valid driver's licenseMust successfully pass an extensive background checkAs of October 15, 2021 all BUILD, Inc. employees must be fully vaccinated.Preferred Qualifications:Self-motivated leader with the ability to communicate in a friendly and informative manner with people from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and lifestylesHandle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.Demonstrates good judgment and ability to work independently as a part of a teamDriven to succeed, organized, proactive, innovative, responsible, and assertive, possess integrity and the ability to motivate othersBilingual English and Spanish preferredClinicians with experience in expressive therapies, including visual arts, dance movement, musicWork effectively with agency staff, board members, funders, donors and volunteersMaintain respectful and appropriate relationships with program participants, all level of agency staff and various publics of the agency; demonstrating sensitivity to all ethnic, racial and economic backgrounds and embracing the agency's mission, values and cultureThis organization reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as the need arises.
