CPA celebrates 19th season

Governors State University's Center for Performing Arts brings Chicago-style theater to University Park. The Center for Performing Arts is beginning its 19th season and hosts a world class theater that offers big city performances at a small town price. There are many exciting shows in store for the 2013/2014 season with a variety of performances for all tastes and ages.
Family shows will be offered for the young at heart including The Ugly Duckling, Johnny Appleseed, and Beauty and the Beast.
For the music aficionado, there is a variety of choices. Lyric Opera Preview will be kicking it off on Sunday, September 22, and is the first of three opera shows during this season.
Beatles fans will be delighted when they learn Jim Witter will be rocking the tunes on his piano at The Long and Winding Road on September 28. Some of the hits will include "Blackbird", "A Hard Day's Night", "Hey Jude", and many more.
The Center for Performing Arts is bringing Spain to you in Flamenco Passion-The Chiara Mangiameli Ensemble on October 12. Those who attend will experience the passion of Spain in this musical act of Flamenco and songs. Prior to the show, wine and
tapas will be offered for patrons to enjoy.
Ailey II is a must see for dance enthusiasts, as it promises to be a tale of passion and spirit, shown through the moves of these talented young dancers.The Nutcracker will be at the Center on December 7 and is a classic holiday favorite full of magic and mischief you don't want to miss.
In continuing with the One More Night Series, HAIR Crownicles and SUGAR Funk: Defining Images of SELF, will be at the Center on February 7 and will explore the issue of women's body image.
TEATRO LUNA'S Generation SEX will premiere on April 11 and will discuss finding love and satisfaction in the digital age. Dee Alexander in concert on April 26 is the final One More Night show, and will encompass jazz, gospel and soul music with
hits from Jimi Hendrix, James Brown and more.
Who needs to go to Louisiana when you can celebrate Mardi Gras right here with Mardi Gras Carnival on Saturday, March 1! The
show boasts a 15 piece Chicago Jazz Philharmonic that will bring the sounds and celebrations of New Orleans to you. For an additional $25, one can attend the pre-performance party, complete with New Orleans food and a festive atmosphere.
